1.       Collaboration:  Graduates should be able to demonstrate the concept of theatre as a collaborative art.

 

Ø       Build a creative performance ensemble.

Ø       Build a creative design and technical team.

Ø       Engage in discussions of production concept to determine strategies for audience development.

Ø       Transfer acquired knowledge from group research to others.

Ø       Build trust, relationships and skills of conflict resolution.

Ø       Identify the various roles of the collaborative process.

 

 

Direct Measure(s)

 

75% of majors should be able to earn a grade of “C” or better in the following courses: TPP 2210 (Elements of Acting), TPP 2111 (Advanced Acting) TPA 3200 (Production Lab), TPP 3310 (Intro to Play Directing).  Through direct participation in Lab experiences associated with coursework and production work students will be assessed through reflective critiques, oral and written.

80% of graduates responding to the following items in the Theatre Alumni Survey:  How satisfied were you with (1) “Opportunities for interaction with faculty (2)   “Opportunities for hands-on experience in theatre courses” will respond that were very satisfied or satisfied with their undergraduate experiences relative to theatre as a collaborative art.

 

2.       Communication:  Graduates should be able to demonstrate proficiency in varied forms of recognized communication.

 

Ø       Speak while using clear articulation and adequate vocal production.

Ø       Physicalize non-verbal behavior through physicalization of feelings and emotions.

Ø       Develop creative expression through visual arts.

Ø       Utilize electronic and mechanical tools for precise communication.

Ø       Transmit ideas through formal and creative writing.

 80% of majors will earn a grade of “B” or better in the capstone course THE 4908 (Senior Project) which includes assignments in performance, design or management.  A written and oral defense is required as a part of the portfolio review.

80% of graduates responding to the following items in the Theatre Alumni Survey:  How satisfied were you with (1) “Opportunities for interaction with faculty (2) “Opportunities for performance and design experiences” will respond that were very satisfied or satisfied with their undergraduate experiences relative to theatre as a communicative art.

 

3.       Critical Thinking:  Graduates should be able to utilize creative and critical thinking in the major.

 

Ø       Read with critical comprehension.

Ø       Identify and compare the various historical, social and cultural influences and traditions in the field of arts and entertainment.

Ø       Evaluate and interpret works of art orally and in writing, using appropriate terminology.

Ø       Analyze a work for its production needs and costs.

Ø       Utilize critically-based knowledge in practical/creative projects.

 80% of majors will earn a grade of “B” or better in the capstone course THE 4908 (Senior Project).  Portfolio (to include a written and oral defense) review will be the method of assessment.

80% of graduates responding to the following items in the Theatre Alumni Survey:  How satisfied were you with (1) “Opportunities to apply critical thinking skills in your courses (2) “Opportunities to apply critical thinking skills relative to practical/creative projects” will respond that were very satisfied or satisfied with their undergraduate experiences relative to critical thinking.

4.       Theatre Design, Theatre Management and Technology:  Graduates should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the principles of design, technology and management.

 

Ø       Specify elements of basic lighting design.

Ø       Identify elements of basic costume design.

Ø       Define the elements of basic set design.

Ø       Recognize theatre business management techniques.

Ø       Define terminology in theatre production.

 

Direct Measure(s)

 

70% of majors should earn a grade of “C” or better in design, management and technology classes.  Course-embedded assessments include class projects, classroom activities and in-class analysis of a problem.

 

Indirect Measure(s)

 

80% of graduates responding to the following items in the Theatre Alumni Survey:  How satisfied were you with (1)   “Opportunities for hands-on experience in theatre design courses (2) “Opportunities for practicums outside the classroom” will respond that were very satisfied or satisfied with their undergraduate experiences relative to theatre in design, management and technology.

 

5.       Theatre Education:  Graduates should be able to demonstrate successful teaching strategies on the secondary level.

 

Ø       Demonstrate a working knowledge of all areas of theatrical production.

Ø       Be knowledgeable in the theories and tactics of educational instruction in grades 6-12.

Ø       Demonstrate the ability to work interactively with other educators in the teaching community.

Ø       Demonstrate a thorough understanding of and implementation of the Florida Generic and Accomplished practices.

Direct Measure(s)

 

 100 % of students will successfully pass the Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE) in Drama/Theatre 6-12 based on the Drama 6-12 Competencies and Skills knowledge-base as determined by the Florida Association for Teacher Education and approved by the State of Florida.

 

 

Indirect Measure(s)

 

100% of students completing their internships will be judged as successful or very successful based upon the Directing Teacher Candidate Summative Evaluation Form utilized by the Directing Teacher, their advisor and the Director of Student Teaching Program.  The student will be evaluated on (1) General Performance, (2) Teaching Techniques and (3) Descriptive Comments Regarding Teaching Performance.
